How do I know if I have gum disease?

If you are not regularly seeing a dental hygienist your gums will not be as healthy as they should be and you will have a build-up of plaque (soft deposits) and tartar (hard deposits) on your teeth.

When these deposits are left on your teeth the gums can become sore and inflamed and cause gingivitis. When this inflammation of the gums is left untreated, the inflammation can extend into the ligaments and bone structures that support the teeth. This disease is called peridontitis or gum disease.

Warning signs include bad breath, bleeding gums, swollen or tender gums, loose teeth or even changes in the spaces between the teeth.

By working with our hygienist she will be able to remove the deposits using special instruments and any let over plaque by polishing.

Just as importantly she will be able to provide you with a personal hygiene homecare program and educate you on how to maintain your teeth and gums to a healthy level.

Regular maintenance is essential and recall appointments will be made to keep you on track.
